Anchor testing evaluates load capacity and structural integrity to confirm anchors can safely support fall protection systems. Testing must be performed in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and under the supervision of a professional engineer.
All test results are documented in an engineer-approved report (stamped, signed, and dated) and should be kept on-site in equipment logbooks. Any anchors found unsafe for use must be taken out of service until corrective action is completed.
On-Site Load Testing (Per CSA Z271:20) – Newly installed anchors and suspended access equipment must undergo post-installation load testing.
Pull Testing – Applying a specific load to verify strength and performance.
Hydraulic Ram Testing – Using a hydraulic jack or spring-loaded system to apply and hold test loads for at least 15 seconds.
Epoxy Adhesive Anchors (e.g., U-bar anchors, davit bases) require 100% load testing at intervals not exceeding 5 years.
Load testing must be supervised and documented by a professional engineer or qualified person under their supervision.
On-Site Load Testing Exemptions – Equipment tie-ins (stabilization buttons), horizontal lifelines, and line redirectors are exempt from the new CSA Z271:20 requirement.
